GIRLS PEEWEE DIVISION
A Message From Your Girls PeeWee Convener
Thank you for your interest in the 2024 Girls Peewee season with Royal York Baseball League Inc. Please consider the information below closely.
**All information is preliminary and may change based on final registration numbers and diamond allocations.
AGE GROUP
For 2024, the Girls Peewee teams will consist of players born in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE REGULAR SEASON
From beginners to experienced players, the Girls Peewee House League welcomes girls at every skill level. The program’s emphasis is on skill development which becomes progressively more important. Fun and team spirit are paramount, but throwing, fielding, catching and hitting are all skills the players will develop . On average, players should expect to practice once a week, and play twice. Two teams will share the same practice day and field. Our regular season runs from May to June, and reconvenes in September for playoffs.. This gives families the flexibility to enjoy an uninterrupted summer.
Once the season comes to an end, your Head Coach will organize an end-of-season party to celebrate.
**I’d like to welcome any parent volunteers to consider coaching, RY offers plenty of tools and resources along the way.
EXPECTED SCHEDULE
During the season, there will be:
- One weekday scheduled practice
- One weekday scheduled game
- One scheduled game each Saturday or alternate Saturday
Parents/players should expect to receive communication via email or phone by mid/end of April from their Head Coach on scheduling details.
FIELD LOCATIONS
All games and practices are expected to be held at one or more of the following Etobicoke parks:
- Queensway South – 8 Avon Park Dr.
- Westway Park – 175 The Westway
- Tom Riley – 3216 Bloor St W.
YEAR END CHAMPIONSHIPS
Playoffs will be held with a round robin series in September to determine seeding. Championship Day will be scheduled at the month’s end where trophies will be awarded.
PRE-SEASON CLINICS
As part of an initiative to improve the overall skill level of the players, there will be a couple of developmental clinics available. At no additional cost, the pre season clinic will be held at ProTeach (25 Whitlam Ave.) focusing mostly on proper throwing, catching, batting and fielding. During this session, players’ skill levels will be evaluated so every effort can be made to create teams that are well balanced.
Attendance is highly recommended.
PRACTICE DAY PREFERENCE REQUESTS
If you have a preference for a particular practice day, please include that in the comments section of your registration. Although it cannot be guaranteed, every effort will be made to accommodate your requests.
PLAY-WITH REQUESTS
Only “reciprocal” Play-With Requests will be considered as per the play-with policy on the RYBL website. This means that if your daughter would like to play with another girl, she must select that girl on her registration, and in-turn that other girl must also select your daughter on her registration. Unfortunately, non reciprocal Play-With-Requests will be rejected as well as listing multiple requests. All efforts will be made to accommodate proper Reciprocal Play-With Requests submitted by April 1st.
UNIFORMS and EQUIPMENT
All House League players will be provided uniforms consisting of a jersey, pants, socks, and belt. Please measure and anticipate your player’s size for the spring/summer of 2024. RYBL will provide team bats and catching gear but each player is required to bring their own glove, helmet, and baseball cleats.
COACHING VOLUNTEERS
RYBL is the best youth baseball association in Etobicoke due to the dedication of its parent coach volunteers. Only through these many volunteers is the league capable of operation. Please consider expressing your interest in coaching or assisting on your daughter’s registration application. We welcome both male and female coaches and experience is not necessary.
UMPIRING
This is a great age to start umpiring and learning the game of baseball from a different perspective. If your daughter is interested in umpiring for the upcoming season, please contact our Umpire-in-Chief at uic@rybl.com.
REGISTRATION
Register early to maximize the chances of ensuring a spot in the Girls Peewee House League. Do acknowledge Rowan’s Law (Concussion Policy) and Parent & Player code of Conduct found on the RYBL website.
Again, thank you for your interest in RYBL and the Girls Peewee HL Division for 2024. With your support, great strides are being made in providing opportunities for girls.
If you have any further concerns, please contact me via email and I will do my best to answer your questions. Looking forward to a great season.
Let’s play ball!
