RYBL UMPIRES

A Note From The Umpire-in-Chief

Welcome Back Umpires, we look forward to a fun 2024 season!

All Umpires are required by Baseball Ontario to be re-certified annually to maintain their active umpire status. Below are the instructions to become an umpire with Royal York Baseball League Inc.

Rep & Select umpires must be 12 years old and are required to complete a training clinic under the Royal York Baseball League (RYBL) Inc. umbrella through the Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) found on the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) website.

Umpire training clinics will be a combination of an in person clinic (4hr) and online this year (Levels 1 – 2).

For new umpires and returning umpires you will need to create a profile on the Baseball Ontario OnDeck App. This is also available on the OBA Website see link: https://ondeck.baseballontario.com/baseball-ontario-ondeck/register. If you have questions they can be directed to umpire@baseballontario.com.

Umpires must independently complete a series of virtual online training modules for certification. Virtual modules and test will be available shortly after you register, and it is recommended you complete the on line virtual clinic prior to attending an in person clinic. Below are the 2024 fees if you register for one of the RYBL hosted in person clinics.

Level 1.1->1.2 – $30 this includes the $25 OBA fee plus $5 to help cover Umpire clinic cost

Level 2.1->2.3 – $50 this includes the $45 OBA fee plus $5 to help cover Umpire clinic cost

Here are the steps to register for a clinic with Baseball Ontario & Royal York Baseball League Inc.

  1. New umpires must first register with Baseball Ontario on the OnDeck application and then register for Level 1.1 clinics: OBA Link above
  2. Returning umpires can check their profile and register for a clinic on OBA link above
  3. To Register to Umpire with RYBL, visit the RYBL website and fill-out the required information with payment: Umpire Registration – RYBL
  • Adult umpires 18 and over in 2024 (YOB: 2006) will also need to complete a VSC (Vulnerable Sector Check) through the OBA before their profile can be activated.
  • If you are taking the Level 3 or 4 course: Please register and pay directly with OBA.

Once you have registered you will have until Mid-May 2024 to complete all online modules and the in person clinic. We can’t schedule you for Rep/select games until you have completed the in person clinic, online modules and have received your active status and certification from the OBA.

Planning is under way for RYBL to host (2) OBA run in person clinics for level 1 and 2 umpires. It is not mandatory for Umpires to complete in-person clinics with RYBL, and can register with any clinic in Ontario. We will host 2 clinics for RYBL and Etobicoke umpires while the EBA most likely will also host one as well. Stay tuned to the website for more information, or keep your eye on your ONDeck profile for locations when they become available in our neighbourhood.
